How is your SSAF calculated?

Your SSAF will be calculated based on:

your enrolled credit points, or equivalent full time study load (EFTSL) for research students
your location of study and study mode (e.g. internal or external)

The maximum SSAF charge is $326 in 2023.

*Your EFTSL is calculated based on your study rate over the course of one year. If you are undertaking research full time, you will use 1.0 EFTSL for the year.

How does Curtin decide where to allocate the SSAF money?

The allocation is decided by Curtin’s Student Services and Amenities Fees Expenditure Advisory Committee, which is made up of 50% Curtin staff and 50% individuals nominated by the Student Guild.

The committee identifies gaps in student services and support, and decides which facilities and services should receive the funding. This goes into an expenditure plan which the committee monitors to ensure that all SSAF money is spent effectively and in accordance with legislation.

Who is exempt from paying the SSAF?

These students are exempt from paying the SSAF in 2022:

International students
Domestic students serving sentences in prison in an Australian state or territory
Students completing VET sector courses
Students enrolled in:
- Formal study exchange programs
- Study abroad programs
- Cross-institutional courses
Students studying at any campus outside of Australia
Students studying Open Universities Australia open access (not for degree or direct entry) units or courses
Students enrolled in select enabling or bridging courses
