Ally training and awareness
What do Allies do?
Your mission as an Ally is to help create a university environment in which LGBTIQ+ students and staff are accepted and able to be open about who they are. For example, you are asked to demonstrate solidarity by completing LGBTIQ+ Awareness Training, becoming an active member of the Ally Network, attending events like the annual Pride WA Pride Parade march, wearing an Ally lanyard, or placing rainbow Ally stickers on your stuff. These visible signs of support are simple, fabulous and extremely effective.
LGBTIQ+ Awareness Training
LGBTIQ+ Awareness Training is designed to raise awareness and understanding of contemporary challenges and barriers faced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ+) people.
The training has a theoretical base, with historical and local context and understanding of emerging trends. The session provides publications, case studies and scenarios to engage conversation and critical thinking around topics covered.
Once you’ve completed the training, you’ll be invited to join the Curtin Ally Network. You’ll receive ongoing support and access to learning resources, Ally Network email updates, and invitations to network events.
